Wastewater sterilizer for inactivating large quantities of liquid

Reading time about 3 minutes

Wastewater is produced in a wide variety of working environments, but in laboratories or quarantine facilities in particular, it cannot simply be disposed of via the domestic water supply. The wastewater could contain potentially hazardous substances that cannot be inactivated by normal wastewater treatment plants or could destroy the bacterial cultures present there. A wastewater sterilizer ensures that even large quantities of wastewater are inactivated quickly, safely and in a validatable manner. For this purpose, the Systec Mediaprep-120 has been further developed and redesigned specifically for the Systec waste water sterilizer.

Where are waste water sterilizers necessary?

The current legal situation prohibits the discharge of potentially infectious, genetically engineered or generally harmful substances into the water network, as these substances could potentially have a negative impact on the drinking water of entire cities or even regions. Wastewater sterilization is therefore particularly important for the following facilities:

  • Laboratories (especially safety levels S2, S3 and S4)
  • Medical and veterinary facilities
  • Laboratories in the pharmaceutical industry

In the past, potentially contaminated water was typically collected in such facilities and transported to central disposal points. However, this approach created additional costs for transportation, uncertainty during transport and time delays in handling larger sterilization processes. For this reason, more and more facilities are attaching importance to having their own wastewater sterilizer in order to be able to sterilize the liquid reliably, quickly and as locally as possible.

Waste water sterilization - the solution from Systec

In order to inactivate contaminated water in large quantities as quickly and easily as possible and at the same time obtain validatable sterilization results, the Systec Mediaprep-120 was converted into a waste water sterilizer with just a few modifications.
The advantage of this device is that it already has a large filling volume as well as a cuvette and nozzle for filling. This means that the Systec waste water sterilizer can be used to aspirate and sterilize waste water from a collection container using a hose and integrated pump. Manual filling via the open lid is still possible, but automatic filling saves a lot of time:

  • less than 10 minutes filling time for 100 liters filling volume
  • approx. 120 minutes for the sterilization run
  • Less than 10 minutes to empty the appliance

Thanks to the integrated sterilization programs of the Systec waste water sterilizer and its ability to fill and empty liquids independently on request, large quantities of waste water can be sterilized in a validatable manner. Disposal takes place directly into the waste water network on site without physical effort and without additional costs for transportation (and disposal).

The further development of the Systec Mediaprep-120 into the Systec waste water sterilizer

The Systec Mediaprep-120 has a number of useful factory-fitted components that not only make the device a practical media preparator, but also very suitable for sterilizing large quantities of liquids such as waste water. The flexible PT-100 temperature sensor and the integrated agitator are also used in the Systec waste water sterilizer, for example, while elements such as the touch display and USB port for documentation ensure that the sterilization processes are easy to control and validate.

In addition, the following enhancements have been made to the Systec Mediaprep-120:

  • Redesign of the container door to allow automated filling and emptying of large quantities of water
  • Optional: installation of an exhaust air filter
  • Installation of a powerful water ring vacuum pump for automatic filling of the Systec waste water sterilizer
  • Filling and draining program for contactless waste water sterilization

The further developed form of the Systec Mediaprep-120 for the Systec waste water sterilizer is able to sterilize aqueous solutions - for this, no solids or suspended matter (cellulose, textiles, glass, plastics, etc.) may be contained in the solution. Systec will be happy to support you in carrying out these steps with the necessary adapters. In the case of new appliances, the corresponding modifications can also be made directly at the factory.

A Systec waste water sterilizer is the ideal way to inactivate large quantities of waste water - reliably, conveniently, quickly and directly on site.
